The World Diamond Council’s (WDC) revised System of Warranties (SoW) is now fully applicable across the diamond supply chain, following the end of its five-year transition period on 21 September 2026. The revised framework covers transactions involving rough diamonds, polished diamonds and diamond jewellery.
The SoW requires buyers and sellers to include a warranty declaration on B2B invoices and memos whenever diamonds change hands. Under the revised framework, this declaration goes beyond confirming compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and incorporates wider responsible business principles.
These principles include respect for human and labour rights, as well as measures addressing anti-money laundering and anti-corruption. Companies applying the revised SoW must also complete an online self-assessment and receive a unique identification number for use alongside the warranty declaration on relevant transaction documents.
The September 2026 deadline marks the completion of the transition for polished diamonds and diamond jewellery, extending the revised requirements beyond the rough-diamond trade. Businesses across the value chain are therefore expected to ensure that their invoice templates, internal procedures and supplier or business-partner practices are aligned with the updated framework.
The WDC describes the SoW as a self-regulatory mechanism designed to carry assurances of responsible sourcing and business practices through the diamond supply chain, with each transaction passing the warranty on to the next buyer.
