The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) recently rolled out a four-day knowledge series for small and medium jewellery enterprises across Maharashtra. Conducted between 17th and 20th August in Ratnagiri and Kolhapur, the initiative was held as part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme of the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC).
The workshops were designed to balance creativity with business acumen. In Ratnagiri, sessions on 17th and 18th August explored modern jewellery design concepts alongside modules on financial planning and digital literacy. Entrepreneurs had the chance to learn about evolving design trends, manufacturing practices, budgeting techniques, digital tools, and government assistance schemes.
The following two days in Kolhapur shifted the spotlight to manufacturing excellence. Participants were introduced to gold testing, hallmarking standards, and appraisal methods, complemented by another set of financial management and digital strategy discussions aimed at strengthening SME resilience.
In total, around 200 business owners and professionals attended the programme. Each participant received certification, but more importantly, they left with upgraded skills and sharper financial awareness. By combining technical training with financial and digital knowledge, the initiative has equipped jewellery SMEs to navigate the evolving market with greater confidence and sustainability.
