The Meerut Bullion Traders Association (MBTA) has stepped up efforts to formalise the city’s jewellery ecosystem by seeking strategic guidance from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) for a proposed Jewellery Park in Meerut.

On 11 January 2026, during IIJS Bharat Signature at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, a MBTA delegation met GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali and Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray to discuss the roadmap for the project. The interaction marked a continuation of earlier dialogues aimed at strengthening Meerut’s position as a key jewellery and bullion hub.

Representing MBTA were President Pradeep Agarwal, Vice President Sandeep Agarwal, General Secretary Vijay Anand Agarwal, along with Deepak Johri, General Secretary of the National Institute of Jewellery Technology (NIJT), Meerut. The delegation highlighted the city’s extensive but largely unorganised trade network, which supports nearly 30,000 artisans and more than 5,000 jewellers, wholesalers and allied businesses.

The association stressed that a dedicated Jewellery Park would enable the cluster to shift towards organised manufacturing, adopt advanced machinery, and align with regulatory and compliance standards. They shared that the Meerut Development Authority has earmarked approximately 36,000 square metres of land for the project, while noting that pricing structures and policy clearances remain critical hurdles.

Meerut’s strategic location within the NCR, strong connectivity to Delhi, robust transport infrastructure and consistent GST contributions from the jewellery sector were presented as indicators of the cluster’s long-term potential.

GJEPC officials advised a methodical approach, underscoring the need for a comprehensive feasibility assessment and a Detailed Project Report prepared with support from recognised agencies. Drawing from experiences in Maharashtra, they emphasised how structured planning and coordinated state engagement can significantly speed up project execution.

The discussion concluded with GJEPC assuring guidance on technical planning, documentation and stakeholder engagement. MBTA also sought the council’s support for artisan skill development programmes and stronger representation for Meerut-based businesses at future GJEPC-led trade platforms.
