The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council recently welcomed Shri Brij Bhushan Gupta following his appointment as Chief Commissioner of Customs for Mumbai Zone–III, initiating a dialogue focused on improving trade efficiency.
The Council’s delegation, led by Chairman Kirit Bhansali and Vice Chairman Shaunak Parikh, along with Senior Director Mithilesh Pandey, used the meeting to outline key operational challenges currently affecting the gem and jewellery sector.
Among the primary concerns raised was the limited utilisation of the Special Notified Zone infrastructure at the Bharat Diamond Bourse during non-designated periods, as well as delays in processing re-import consignments sent overseas for certification—particularly cases involving measurement discrepancies.
The Council also presented a comprehensive note detailing broader industry issues, emphasising the need for streamlined customs procedures to facilitate smoother trade flows. The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration between regulators and industry stakeholders to reduce inefficiencies and sustain export momentum.
