In a move designed to support the gem and jewellery industry during ongoing global uncertainties, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade has announced a one-time extension of 30 days across key trade timelines.
Issued under Chapter 4 of the Handbook of Procedures (HBP) 2023, the relief applies to export obligations as well as re-import and re-export deadlines that fall between 1 March and 31 May 2026. The extension will be granted automatically, offering immediate operational flexibility to exporters navigating shipment delays and supply chain disruptions.
Importantly, the DGFT has removed procedural barriers by confirming that no separate applications, fees, or documentation updates will be required to benefit from this relaxation. Customs authorities have been instructed to process shipments in accordance with the revised timelines, while continuing standard checks.
This step is positioned as a temporary yet practical intervention, helping the sector maintain continuity in trade activities amid geopolitical tensions and logistical challenges impacting global markets.
