IGI (International Gemological Institute), a global authority in diamond, coloured gemstone, and jewellery certification with a strong presence in India, inaugurated its second laboratory in Jaipur on January 29, 2026, further strengthening its footprint in North India. Jaipur's long-standing legacy in coloured gemstone trading, un-cut Polki, and fine jewellery craftsmanship makes it a strategic location for IGI. Sitapura, Jaipur's recognized dedicated gems and jewellery manufacturing hub aligns with IG's endeavour to remain close to the trade, ensuring transparency and confidence for consumers. The strategic proximity enables faster grading turnaround times, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced service delivery. IG's launch in Sitapura underscores its commitment to supporting manufacturers and exporters through a stronger local presence and accessibility.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tehmasp Printer, Managing Director & Global Chief Executive Officer, IGI, said, "At IGI, we recognised the global shift in consumer preferences early on, especially the rising demand for coloured gemstones. This surge is being driven by increasing consumer interest in unique fusion designs that combine multiple precious gemstones, personalised jewellery, and a growing appreciation for the rarity and beauty of coloured stones. Additionally, origin determination and treatment detection in coloured gemstones are highly specialised processes that require sophisticated analytical tools. Meeting this rising demand calls for both advanced technology and deep gemological expertise. With our new laboratory in Jaipur, IGI is further strengthening its ability to deliver this precision at scale. This expansion not only supports the industry's growing needs but also reinforces transparency, trust, and confidence across the value chain - thereby contributing to the global expansion of the coloured gemstone market."

The Jaipur facility will offer IG's full range of certification services for diamonds, coloured gemstones and jewellery, ensuring transparency and consumer protection. Using advanced tools such as Raman spectrometry, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence, IGI analyses a gemstone's internal structure, composition, and inclusions to trace its geological history. To empower trade, the Sitapura office will also offer globally recognised education programmes to support regional skill development by imparting industry-relevant, contemporary gemological knowledge at the IGI School of Gemology. With the new opening IGI now operates 35 laboratories across 10 countries, in addition, IGI runs 21 School of gemology.
