The Gold Standard Wedding: Rashmika & Vijay Devarakonda’s Golden Union
At a time when many celebrity weddings lean toward lighter styling, the couple chose elaborate temple jewellery. Designed by SHREE Jewellers over nearly ten months, the pieces were inspired by the sculptural forms and motifs seen in South Indian temple architecture. The result was a wedding look built around heritage craftsmanship rather than short-term trends.
Drawing From the Language of Temple Craft
The collections for both bride and groom were shaped by traditional goldsmithing techniques. Nakshi engraving created raised, detailed surfaces, while Rava granulation added texture through clusters of tiny gold beads.
The jewellery was designed with two clear visual references in mind. Rashmika’s look drew from the imagery of a goddess often seen in temple sculpture, while Vijay’s jewellery was designed to evoke the presence of a ceremonial king. This approach ensured that both looks felt connected while still maintaining distinct identities.
A Groom’s Look That Broke the Minimal Rule
Men’s wedding jewellery in India is often limited to a chain or brooch. Vijay’s look moved in the opposite direction.
He wore layered temple necklaces, a heavy wrist cuff, an armlet, rings, and large coin-sized ear studs. One of the more unusual details was the addition of anklet kadas, which are rarely seen in modern groom styling.
The designs included elephant and tiger motifs, representing wisdom, strength, and agility. Deep Nakshi carving added dimension to the pieces, while braided textures and fine granulation gave the jewellery a structured, sculptural appearance.
The overall styling placed strong emphasis on ceremonial ornamentation rather than minimal accessories.
Eleven Pieces That Completed the Bridal Look
Rashmika’s jewellery followed the traditional structure of South Indian temple bridal adornment. In total, she wore eleven pieces, creating a layered and detailed bridal silhouette.
Her set included a choker with traditional harams, statement jhumkas, a jada billa for the braid, champasaralu along the hairline, a mathapatti, nose pin, bangles, bajuband, hathphool, waist belt, and anklets.
Each piece featured high-relief Nakshi work combined with intricate Rava detailing. The jewellery was finished with an antique matte polish, giving the gold a softer and more heritage-inspired appearance. According to the designers, the intention was to create jewellery that could function as heirloom pieces beyond the wedding.
A Wedding That Put Gold Jewellery Back in Focus
Together, the couple’s jewellery reportedly weighed close to three kilograms of gold, highlighting the scale of the craftsmanship involved.
More importantly, the wedding sparked conversation around the return of elaborate temple jewellery in celebrity weddings. While recent bridal trends have leaned toward lighter and simpler designs, Rashmika and Vijay’s wedding showed that traditional maximalist jewellery still holds strong cultural appeal.
In this case, the jewellery was not just an accessory to the outfits. It became one of the defining elements of the wedding itself.
