Harry Winston has turned to Jaipur for inspiration for a high-jewellery suite that translates the Rajasthan capital’s architectural character and signature pink palette into precious gemstones. Part of the Maison’s Majestic Escapes collection, the Jaipur suite comprises a necklace, earrings and bracelet, with designs informed by the city’s domed structures, arched windows and rose-coloured streetscape.
At the centre of the offering is the Jaipur Necklace, built around a 5.36-carat rubellite. Five pear-shaped pink tourmalines, cut in the same silhouette, enhance the central gemstone, while additional rubellites and diamonds complete the composition. According to Harry Winston, the gemstones have been carefully matched for colour to reflect the harmonious aesthetic of Jaipur’s architecture.
The choice of Jaipur is rooted in the city’s historical identity. Known as the Pink City, Jaipur acquired its distinctive appearance in 1876, when Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II ordered its buildings to be painted pink to welcome the visiting Prince of Wales, Albert Edward. The colour, traditionally associated with hospitality, subsequently became an enduring part of the city’s identity. This association with warmth and welcome informs the Maison’s interpretation of Jaipur through the suite.
Translating architecture into jewellery
Beyond its colour references, the suite draws on Jaipur’s architectural vocabulary. Harry Winston’s designers studied the city’s architectural details, particularly its domed buildings and arched windows, translating these forms into softly curving arrangements of gemstones.
The necklace, bracelet and earrings employ these curved lines to establish continuity across the suite. The earrings, in particular, follow a graceful upward curve along the ear, combining clear diamonds with pear-shaped rubellite drops. Pink pear-shaped tourmalines reinforce the suite’s central colour reference, while the use of diamonds provides contrast.
Rather than relying solely on the visual association of pink gemstones with Jaipur, the designs seek to interpret the city’s architectural proportions through the arrangement and movement of precious stones. The result is a suite in which gemstone selection and composition work together to establish a connection with its geographical inspiration.
A destination-led high-jewellery collection
The Jaipur suite sits within Majestic Escapes, Harry Winston’s destination-inspired high-jewellery collection. The wider collection draws on the natural and architectural character of locations around the world, with individual suites interpreting their respective destinations through gemstone colours, forms and settings.
Other destinations represented in the collection include Yellowstone, Victoria Falls, Tahiti, Porto Cervo, Mauritius, Iceland, the Great Barrier Reef and Antarctica. Each offers a different visual vocabulary, ranging from landscapes and bodies of water to distinctive geographical environments.
With Jaipur, the Maison turns its attention to an Indian city whose identity is closely associated with its architectural heritage, gemstone trade and distinctive urban palette. The suite brings these references into the language of high jewellery through a combination of rubellites, pink tourmalines and diamonds.
