Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas has marked the first anniversary of its Mumbai presence with an evening dedicated to the jewellery house’s Jaipur heritage, archival creations and evolving relationship with the city.

Held at the brand’s Jio World Plaza boutique, the celebration brought together guests from Mumbai’s fashion, luxury and cultural circles. The evening centred on nine archival and collectible jewels, presented through individual artistic installations that explored the history, craftsmanship and stories behind each piece.

The anniversary comes a year after Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas established its contemporary retail presence at Jio World Plaza, reconnecting the Jaipur house with Mumbai after a long historical association with the city. The brand itself has described the occasion as a “Mumbai Homecoming” across its social channels.

Nine Jewels From The Archive

Rather than marking the milestone with a conventional anniversary celebration, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas used the occasion to place its jewellery at the centre of the experience.

The nine pieces presented during the evening were Ember in Sand, The Shree Veni, The Golconda Blush, Scent of the Sea, Jaipore Pink, Pannika, Shahi Kantha, The Legacy of Art and The Queen of Ni. Each was given its own artistic setting, creating a presentation that connected individual jewels with the techniques, narratives and visual language of the house. The programme also featured a conversation between Rhea Kapoor and Yash Agarwal, Creative Director of Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, centred on the evolution of the jewellery house and its interpretation of traditional Indian jewellery for contemporary consumers.

Jaipur Heritage, Mumbai Context

Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas' Mumbai story is rooted in a relationship with the city that predates its current boutique. The house traces its origins to the late 19th century, while its Jaipur atelier was established in Johri Bazaar in 1930. Its heritage is closely associated with North Indian jewellery traditions and techniques, including the setting of uncut diamonds in gold foil and the carving of gemstones into sculptural floral and figurative forms.

The new Mumbai presence places those traditions within Jio World Plaza, one of the city's contemporary luxury retail destinations. The anniversary event consequently served as both a celebration of the boutique's first year and a statement about the house's continuing relevance to a new generation of jewellery collectors.

Jewellery As An Experience

The decision to present archival pieces through individual installations reflects a wider shift in luxury jewellery retail, where provenance, craftsmanship and narrative increasingly sit alongside the intrinsic value of gemstones. For Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, the archive provides a means of making that heritage tangible. The nine jewels presented in Mumbai offered different expressions of the house's design vocabulary while allowing visitors to encounter them within a larger cultural narrative rather than as isolated products.

The evening concluded with a multi-course gastronomic experience inspired by the nine jewellery pieces, accompanied by live fusion performances, extending the idea of the anniversary from a retail event into a broader sensory interpretation of the collection.

One year into its Mumbai chapter, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas is therefore positioning its presence in the city around more than retail expansion. The anniversary has become an opportunity to revisit the house's archive, foreground the craftsmanship behind its jewellery and establish a contemporary context for a heritage that began in Jaipur and now reaches a new audience in Mumbai.
