Artist and jeweller Ana Khouri, who has presented her works through solo exhibitions at Phillips, Sotheby’s, Christie’s and TEFAF New York, shows her one-of-a-kind pieces exclusively at her New York salon. Khouri’s numbered limited editions, meanwhile, are presented at The Row worldwide. All her pieces are crafted using 18k Fairmined gold, platinum, and ethically and responsibly sourced gemstones.
In a chat with BOJ, the designer reflects on artistic freedom and craft.
How does the 2026 GEM Award for High Jewelry Excellence reflect your journey as a designer, and what does it mean for your brand?
AK: It is truly an honour, and I am deeply humbled by this recognition. Receiving this award affirms that we are on the right path. I am a sculptor who transitioned into jewellery, and I have never abandoned my background as an artist or my instinctive way of creating.
I am proud to be able to create freely, while continuing to learn every day in order to refine my craft and designs. I believe the best design and craftsmanship are always still ahead of us. We strive to do better with every piece – and there is always a new idea or design in progress. The future of Ana Khouri continues to be a labour of love – guided by authenticity, curiosity and dedication.
How do you navigate the space between artistic expressions and the expectations of collectors within the high jewellery market?
AK: I deeply value my creative freedom and remain committed to creating what I truly believe in. For me, it is about finding harmony between artistic expression, exceptional craftsmanship and the quality of the materials we use. These three pillars guide everything we do. When they are aligned, the rest flows naturally, allowing the work to resonate both emotionally and materially with collectors.
What draws you to unusual, ethically sourced materials – and how do these materials shape the narrative of your work?
AK: Ninety percent of my work consists of one-of-a-kind high jewellery pieces. Working in this way allows me to dream freely, while bringing those dreams to life. I am drawn to pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with different materials. When I fall in love with a material, I naturally want to explore it within my practice.
I believe beauty exists everywhere. That said, I only work with natural materials that are ethically and responsibly sourced. These choices add depth, meaning and emotion to each piece, shaping its narrative as much as its form.
