Carlsbad, Calif – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointed Sriram “Ram” Natarajan as its Senior Vice President of Laboratory Operations. Stepping into the role earlier this month, Natarajan is now based at GIA’s global headquarters in Carlsbad, California, and reports directly to President and CEO, Pritesh Patel.

In his new capacity, Natarajan will guide the future direction of GIA’s laboratory network, overseeing services such as diamond grading and jewelry evaluation. Patel described him as “a dynamic leader with deep understanding of our mission and clients’ needs,” emphasizing that his expertise will play a vital role as GIA introduces advanced technologies, enhances efficiency, and rolls out new services.

Natarajan’s journey with GIA began in 2017 when he joined GIA India as Vice President of Laboratory Operations. By 2020, he was promoted to Managing Director of GIA India, where he was responsible for both education and laboratory services across the country. His extensive career spans more than 30 years of operational and leadership experience across international industries.

Reflecting on his new role, Natarajan said, “It is a privilege to oversee GIA’s global laboratory operations. I am eager to work with our teams worldwide to uphold the highest standards of service and excellence."

GIA noted that the successor for Natarajan’s previous position as Managing Director of GIA India Laboratory Pvt. Ltd. will be announced later this year.
