Buccellati’s storied legacy takes centre stage in Shanghai with The Prince of Goldsmiths: Buccellati Rediscovering the Classics, an immersive exhibition that traces the Maison’s artistic evolution across centuries.
Showcasing 250 curated creations, the exhibition offers a deep dive into Buccellati’s world of refined craftsmanship, where history, artistry and technique converge. Curated by design scholar Alba Cappellieri, the retrospective journeys from Venice to Shanghai, placing the brand’s heritage in a global cultural context.
Spread across four distinct rooms, the exhibition narrates the Maison’s identity from its earliest symbols—such as the butterfly, representing transformation—to intimate recreations of the Buccellati family’s private study and a space dedicated to its enduring inspirations. One gallery explores goldsmithing through architectural forms, highlighting geometric structures, engraved surfaces and references drawn from archaeology.
Nature emerges as a constant muse, influencing both silverware and high jewellery. Signature techniques such as lacework, tulle, enchaining and intricate engraving reflect the Maison’s mastery of age-old methods rooted in Renaissance traditions.
Creative director Claudio Sbragion of Balich Wonder Studio describes the exhibition as a living project, combining historical dialogue with contemporary digital storytelling to present Buccellati’s creations in new and unexpected ways.
For the Buccellati family, hosting the exhibition in Shanghai holds special significance, marking over a decade of presence in mainland China. They see the city as a fitting stage for sharing the Maison’s heritage with an audience that values craftsmanship, beauty and cultural depth.
Buccellati Rediscovering the Classics is on view at the Shanghai Exhibition Center until 5 January 2026.
