Exceptional coloured gemstones emerged as the standout performers at a recent high jewellery auction in New York, where rare blue diamonds and important sapphires attracted intense bidding from collectors worldwide.
Leading the sale was a remarkable 31.62-carat Fancy Blue diamond, which achieved more than $8.3 million, securing its place among the auction's top lots. Another blue diamond, a 5.04-carat Fancy Vivid Blue marquise-cut stone, also delivered a strong result, selling for over $8.1 million.
The auction demonstrated continued demand for rare coloured diamonds, particularly blue stones, which remain among the most sought-after gems due to their scarcity and investment appeal.
Sapphires also generated significant interest throughout the sale. An exceptional sapphire and diamond ring attracted competition across multiple bidding channels before selling for nearly four times its initial estimate. Other notable sapphire jewels similarly surpassed expectations, highlighting sustained collector enthusiasm for important coloured gemstones.
Strong participation from international buyers, online bidders and private collectors contributed to the sale's success, reinforcing the resilience of the high-end jewellery market.
The results underscore the enduring appeal of rare coloured gemstones, with blue diamonds and exceptional sapphires continuing to command premium prices among discerning collectors and connoisseurs.
